1 Sony Vaio Duo 13 Ultrabook, Convertible Tablet

Sony's Vaio Duo 11 was the first Windows 8 hybrid tablet (with slider design) and now they have come up with Vaio Duo 13 ultrabook with latest Intel's 4th Generation powerful ULV processors (codenamed "Haswell") and top notch specs. Other slider designs were seen from Toshiba's Satellite U925T-S2120. Slider design is quite good comparing removable screen design from latest Acer' Aspire P3 or Microsoft's Surface Pro hybrid laptops.

Sony Vaio Duo 13 Ultrabook

Looking at the specs, Duo 13 is surely a faster and powerful ultrabook. It has attractive flat painted magnesium body design with just 1.35 kg weight. Its screen fits into silver carbon fiber chassis with spring loaded hinge mechanism.

Duo 13 has 13.3 Inch HD display, 1920x1080p resolution with great color production, with excellent viewing angels. Still in competition angled viewing is limited. So, one has to sit in front/in-range of the tablet to see sharp while using it as a laptop. Touchscreen supports gestures feeds such as pinching, zooming, swiping movements.

Comparing Duo 11's 7 hr battery life, there is a significant improvement in Duo 13's battery life with amazing 20 hrs and 40 mins. backup on a promise. Again considering Samsung Series 7 Chronos nine and half hours battery support, Duo 13 has astonishing power management.

Its sturdy keyboard is quite easy for day to day fast typing and comfortable use. Duo 13 comes with excellent tiny touchpad which works as a mouse. Without physical mouse buttons, touchpad senses right and left clicks. Its a great improvement over Duo 11's tiny trackpoint. A pen stylus fits into the chassis slot. While it is taken out from the slot, relevant apps such as note taking automatically switched on. Stylus pen is again quite responsive while writing. Its digitizer technology includes a two-button stylus with pen touch apps such as Art Rage Studio Pro and Note Anytime.

Duo 13 comes with excellent ports similar to an advanced laptop. It has USB3, HDMI output, SD, Memory Stick HG Duo card reader, 3G/LTE compatible SIM slot, microphone jack. Connectivity options are great. it is NFC enabled.

It has excellent 8 Mp camera which is enough for capturing great shots. Overall image quality is great. Its 2Mp front facing web camera is again capable of good video recordings.

Overall Duo 13 has top-notch specifications with significantly amazing over 20 hrs of record-breaking battery life. This is something no other ultrabook or laptop can give.

Limitations include its slider design. Most of the time you will have to carry its keyboard in your hand while using it as a tablet. Secondly, the non-detachable keyboard makes whole unit usage slightly difficult. That is no easy of handling keypad. May be an unnecessary hassle for some users.

Benchmarking
At a performance, Duo 13 despite 4th Gen Intel's i5 processors and even on turbo boost up to 3GHz significantly shows similar or equal performance than its predecessors. While Sony's last generation ultrabooks scored 55 in overall multimedia benchmarks Duo 13 were expected to have much more marks. Hence no much room for speed show. With Intel's HD Graphics 4400 GPU video playback and gaming performance is certainly enhanced. Comparing similar other laptops without this GPU, Duo 13 gives a much advanced performance.

PcMark 7 rates Duo 13 almost 130 pts higher than Dell Xps 13 and almost 233 pts below Surface Pro.
Cinebench scores Duo 13 to second place with HP Elitebook Folio 9470m at first.

Sony Duo 13 package comes with Huawei's 3G Modem with GNSS support. A preinstalled Vodafone Starter pack SIM card is made available at the start for trial up to 1GB data. At $40 extra, you can also get a 4G or LTE pack to enjoy current 4G's highest 150Mp/s download speeds.

Even at extreme performance level its CPU fan and overall temperature remain well. Thus, Duo 13 follows the perfect precision. In competition, Microsoft's SurfacePro is even the best deal with surely less price.
